Nuclear Chemistry

Experiment N-9

The Distance Effect on Spectra from Space

rule

Not all radioactive changes in a nucleus result in an immediately stable nucleus.  For small nuclei, an equal number of protons and neutrons is stable.  But for larger nuclei electical repulsion between protons apparently makes a greater number of neutrons necessary for stability.& So a graph of the known stable isotopes is a peninsula that gradually curves.

Experiment

Communicating technical information such as observations and findings is a skill used by scientists but useful for most others.  If you need course credit, use your observations in your journal to construct a formal report.
